Staff Lieutenant Joseph L Herman, CEC-USN, AIA is stationed in Fallujah, Iraq. Joseph is assigned to construction unit which is responsible for the construction of Iraqis military and police facilities around the country. We wish him the safe and speedy return this fall.

Bids will be received on June 26, 2008 for the additions and renovations at the Paxinosa Elementary School within the Easton Area School District. The expansion will add 12 new classrooms, a new entry, office and health suite and also a new kitchen and cafeteria. The entire building will undergo a complete renovation. The design is following LEED guidelines to produce an energy efficient, environmentally friendly building.

Construction also continues ahead of schedule on the new 228,000 square-foot Nazareth Area Middle School. The steel superstructure is almost completed. Exterior walls and brick are well underway. New shiny gold goalposts reveal that the new all-weather track and multi-purpose field are near completion. The Project is targeting a LEED Silver rating. Penn Builders of Quakertown is the General Contractor.

Construction continues ahead of schedule on the new Broughal Middle School. The steel superstructure is completed and exterior walls and brick are enclosing the 4 story building shell. Driving by the site now reveals the structural forms of the auditorium and balcony. The Project is on target for the first Lehigh Valley LEED Gold rated public school. Skepton Construction of Pennsburg is the General Contractor.

Construction contracts have been awarded for the Francis A March Elementary School addition and historic renovation within the Easton Area School District. Work on the College Hill school includes a major restoration of the exterior brick, granite and limestone façade along with new period accurate window replacement and interior renovations to restore the building to its 1913 grace while now functioning as a 21st century state-of-the-art school. Walter Brucker of Dublin, Pa is the General Contractor. Wind Gap Electric and Worth & Company will perform the electrical, HVAC and plumbing work.

Our firm has been retained as the Architect of Record, by the Salisbury Township School District, for the expansion and major renovations to Salisbury High School. A new 40,000 sq. ft., 2-story addition will contain 6 new science labs, 7 classrooms, 2 art suites, family and consumer science room and support spaces. The design will use the U.S. Green Building Council LEED guidelines to produce an energy efficient, environmentally friendly building.

Architectural Furst is pleased to announce two new appointments to the firm.
Lee Shankweiler, AIA has been named a Senior Associate of Architecture FURST. Lee will be involved and consulted in all phases of Client relationships, Firm Operations, Project Management and Design, Office Procedures, Marketing and Personnel decisions. Lee will also continue his role in the development of new and past clients and also lead the Construction Administration of the new Broughal Middle School.
Joseph Herman, AIA has been named an Associate of Architecture FURST. Joseph will be involved and consulted in areas of Project Management and Design, Office Procedures and be a contributor in Personnel decisions. Joseph will be leading the continued development of our CAD standards and training, general and specific construction document production. He will also have a leadership role in the assignment, development and evaluation of all present and new staff members. Joseph will also continue his role in the Construction Administration of the new Nazareth Area Middle School.
